Getting Started

Launching UMind

UMind opens with a sample mind map showing the central topic and three main branches. Press Tab to add a child topic, Enter to add a sibling, Delete to remove the selected node.

Interface

Menu bar (File/Edit/View/Tools/Help), dual-row toolbar, canvas with the mind map, and a status bar. The left toolbar row has file operations; the right row has mind-map editing.

Editing Nodes

Add Child / Sibling

Select a node, click '+ Child Topic' (or press Tab) to add a sub-topic. Click '+ Sibling Topic' (or press Enter) to add a topic at the same level.

Edit Text

Press F2 or double-click a node to rename it. Type directly to edit. Press Enter to confirm.

Delete

Select a node and press Delete. Its children are also removed. Use Ctrl+Z to undo.

Collapse / Expand

Click the small dot on a branch to collapse/expand it. Use View → Collapse All / Expand All for the whole map.

Layouts & Themes

Layouts

View menu offers Horizontal, Vertical, and Radial layouts. Horizontal is the classic left-to-right mind map. Radial radiates from the center.

Themes

View → Theme switches between Classic and Colorful. Colorful gives each main branch a distinct color.

Zoom & Navigate

Use the − / + buttons or mouse wheel to zoom. Click 'Fit' to zoom to fit the whole map. 'Center' moves the root topic to the center.

Export

Formats

File → Export supports PNG, SVG, Markdown, OPML, FreeMind (.mm), and plain text. Use 'Export All Formats' to save everything at once.
